In the following article, Abhishek Vijayvargia explores the limitless possibilities of generative AI, how it works and how it can help us.

What is generative AI?

AI is not a new term for this world. It was here decades ago. At that time, many data scientists (so-called statisticians) built foundational algorithms like linear regression and decision trees and showed the world the power of predictive analytics. But it was still limited, generating great pre- dictions, but needed more capability than just prediction on tabular data.

Then, the researchers started spending time in NLP and Computer Vision. During this time, many great algorithms were researched. The advancement of deep learning on GPUs gave an entirely new light to these heavy algorithms. Now, the system can take text and images and predict those. But the most exciting part was yet to come.

Creating a movie

Then came the era of generative AI, which simply means using AI to generate content. People developed algorithms to learn to generate text, images, video, or any media. They can talk to AI like a human, and AI can create a story for them, such as a complete movie or a thriller series. This enables people to use AI more as it can generate content previously limited only by human intervention.

How does Gen-AI work?

Generative AI algorithms use human-generated data and are trained on those. It understands the relationship within the content, pattern, and sequences. The more quality data this algorithm has, the better the possibility of getting the desired results.

For example, if a company wants to train a sales bot that talks with potential customers and converts to leads, it can train the model with the conversations of its best salespeople. As a result, the bot can understand how to respond and how to solve the problem with maximum satisfaction.

How is Gen-AI helping us?

As with ChatGPT, it got all the limelight this year and defeated most signup records in a certain period. People started ingesting these AI capabilities in different industry verticals.

Some of the active areas in enterprises where Generative AI is showing its true capabilities are:

  • Improved customer conversations with search and chat experience;

  • Summarizing data for faster decision-making;

  • Generating a story or script for the new campaign;

  • Generating videos with a human-like, non-existent person speaking naturally;

  • Creating applications by taking requirements from customers;

  • Converting text to speech in all languages;

  • Creative art generation and image creation from text description;

  • Understanding customer needs by asking the right questions.

Right now, many companies like OpenAI (ChatGPT), Google (Bard), Meta (Llama), and Huggingface are opening many models for the public so that they can under- stand and fit their use cases in them. They also allow you to fine-tune these models on your data so that you can use it more precisely.

Next-Gen Generative AI (Much better future)

As the use cases advance, we cannot ignore the privacy and regulatory concerns that appear. If trained on private data, it can disclose some private information to others. Also, many countries have policies regarding the use of data, like GDPR, which cannot be ignored.

That’s why models trained on private data should be secured properly because that could be the single point of failure for the company and can represent the entire company’s collected data.

This is just a start. The rapid adaptation of this AI capability is enabling more and more industries and areas to benefit from it. Data Scientists, Content creators, marketers, authors, business people, software engineers, and many other professionals will help AI improve and leverage these tools to help them increase productivity in their work. This means we will see the shift of professionals towards AI.

As a famous quote – “AI will not take your job, the person using AI will.”
